2018 - Roll20 chat - Northern Wastes and Returning Home
After arriving in the Northern Wastes, we’re attacked by a giant leviathan. It strikes Rodrick, and flings him through the sky.
Chantry: He falls onto the ground, gasping for air and trying not to pass out. After struggling a moment, he passes out into the snow and ice.
Hikaru changes in rage and fights fiercely. We rush to Rodrick’s aid, and try to bring him back to consciousness. Elves soon arrive after the death of the first leviathan, and kill the second easily. Hikaru passes out and Ruby wraps him up in a blanket and her scarf and helps carry him. The elves lead us back to their secret city.
Mason: After waking up and continuing their journey, he turns to Ruby. “You mean there are MORE people like Zandar?”
Mason: “Wasn't he supposed to be the only one of his kind Ms. Ruby?”
Jessi: “I figured there are few livin' in Terra now, but... I had no idea they all moved up here in the freezin' cold? Rather eerie and sad like.”
Mason: “It's too cold up here for me.” He tucks the green scarf a little closer to his neck. “I prefer the desert.”
Jessi: “Yes'm, it's cold enough to freeze yer nose hairs here. It'd be nice to stay inside a while, but I dare say I'd like to get back to warmer weather soon.”
Mason: “Absolutely Ms. Ruby.”
Jessi: She hesitates. “How ya feel about going to their ceremony tonight?”
Mason: “Might as well?”
Later on after the ceremony, as they attempt to leave and Azandar’s father asks them to swear their loyalty to keeping the secret of their society. Emma is extremely skeptical and dares not, thinking this is some type of evil archaic magic, but some of the others try to show they mean no ill will.
Mason: Hikaru walks up first, and returns to stand with his group after slicing his hand with a dagger for the blood oath. His face is set in stone, but as soon as Emma looks away he waves his hand in pain.
Jessi: Ruby sees him, and seems to contemplate. She steps forward, removing her glove, and sees Azandar shift uncomfortably. He seems to shake his head slightly, not wanting her to go through with it. As she turns, she sees Hikaru also gesturing for her not to hurt herself.
Steeling herself, she slides the cold knife against her skin to draw blood, and hands it back to the King without a word. She walks back over to her place.
Mason: Hikaru looks at her. “Never tell you not to do anythin' huh?”
Jessi: She holds her hand tight to stem the blood, and whispers back, “Darn tootin'.” She gives him a smile. “You... sorta gave me courage for it. Thank 'ya.”
Mason: “To be honest a cuttin' a hand ain't the worst I've been through. But I'm uh... glad I could help Ms. Ruby.”
Jessi: “I likely woulda had to do it anyway, he as madder than a hornet in a handbasket, but I… was all shook like. At first.”
“Thank ya kindly. You're a good boy, 'Karu.”
Mason: He acts indifferent, but his tail wags happily.
A short time later, as they are finally settled in on their ship, Azandar approaches her.
Aaron: “Miss Ruby? I feel I must apologize for the attitude of my father...”
Jessi: “It's quite alright... I can understand his concern.” She trails off, and looks at the group as they make to head out. “I really hope our team can keep mum for 'em, I don't want any trouble. After all the hullabaloo from the paladins, I wanted him to trust at least most of us... Not sure he liked me much.”
Aaron: Azandar nods in agreement. “Well, regardless, I felt for you when you...you know.”
Jessi: She blushes a bit. “I... apologize for that. I could see ya didn't wish for me to harm myself. You're quite kind, Zander, thinkin’ of me.”
Aaron: “Would you, er, like to go over some of this?” He presents a book that he...acquired from the library.
Jessi: Her eyes widen, looking at the elegant script across the front. “Oh my, you... you snuck one from your father's library?” She’s shocked, then worried, then impressed, and takes the book gingerly from him.
