The Conclave of Tarj

9-22-2018 - Aaron (Azandar) and Jessi (Ruby)

Jessi: Ruby just stands back against the wall, gripping her necklace out of habit. She doesn't say anything, worry in her eyes, and doesn't take her eyes off of the monstrous looking man. She feels her blood chill at his look, but his nonchalance is very juxtaposing. She looks over at Azandar, concerned, and trying to gauge his reaction.

Aaron: Azandar glances at her, giving a quizzical and apologetic look.

Jessi: She catches you outside in the hall after our talk. "Where is our...friend, now?"

Aaron: "Ah, well in the guest room. The one near the...back." He rubs the back of his neck nervously.

Jessi: She blanches. "That...empty one, next ta my room?"

Aaron: Is visibly nervous now as he brushes some of his hair out of his eyes. "I mean, all the other rooms are taken up..."

Jessi: She's quiet for a moment. "Well...that was brave of ya to go down there. I...I was worried for ya. He seems so....strange. I'm not sure what to make of him. Is he.... Is he a type of elf..?"

Aaron: Azandar shakes his head. "I doubt it, seeing as Thorin identified him as a...what was that word? Teefleen? Anyway, I don't think there's any sort of elvish in him at all. Also, I appreciate your concern...I was a bit nervous. I am built as far as elves go, but he...he is yoked! Getting in a fist fight with someone THAT size is not something I aspire to."

Jessi: "No, no for golly sure. He seems peaceable enough now.. But... He seemed jumpier than a bean in a skillet when he came aboard.”

She hesitates. “Would ya...mind keepin an eye on em?"

Aaron: "Of course," said he. "Two eyes, as often as I can spare them."

Jessi: I may spend some time with Miss Mella in the meantime.. Just..." She looks away, fiddling.

Aaron: "Hm?"

Jessi: "Until I can gauge more about this stranger. Not to be rude..."

Aaron: "Ah right. Well, I mean, if it isn't too much hassle, you can switch rooms with me. I'm up near the front, several doors away from the guest room."

Jessi: She turns back to you, and then looks contemplative of your offer. "That...that might be nice, actually. Thank ya, Zander."

Aaron: "You're welcome. I'll get to it right away." He begins to move toward his room, but stops momentarily. "In the boiler room, when the ship was descending...you need not worry about what happened. We got it running again, and that's what counts." He smiles. "Very brave of you indeed."

Jessi: She blushes, embarrassed. "I....erm...thank you. I do feel terrible about that...caused more damage than I helped. Although I spent time as Arabella for a few months, I only picked up some very basic alchemy. I didn't know any fuel related ones..so... I used some oil and something Rodrick gave me. Obviously poor choice, on my part."

"My disguises sadly don't grant me new abilities... I wish they would, sometimes." She looks horrified for a moment. "Oh! Your..your hands. I'm so sorry again..." She looks at them sadly. "I have somethin' that might help for that, at least...might we go sit somewhere?"

Aaron: "My fault, really. I didn't think to grab gloves, but yes, let us take a seat somewhere...the galley perhaps? At least it would smell good there." He chuckles, and wrings his hands gently. Blisters have already formed on his palms.

Jessi: She follows you to the galley, and sits nearby, pulling things from her purse. One of which is a small, flat jar, full of a pungent cream. "I picked the fauna for this shortly before returnin, so it's fresh... It should at least soothe the burns and quicken the healing?"

She looks awkwardly at it, realizing since both your hands are burned, she'll take the initiative. She takes one of your hands and holds it upright, and applies the medicine as gently as she can.

Aaron: It feels soothing, as though she were applying aloe. It stings some, but Azandar makes no complaint. "Thank you," he says as she finishes applying the salve to one hand, and offers the other.

Jessi: She takes it and tries to be as careful as before, quiet and focused.

Aaron: He lets her focus, and remembers an equally gentle touch from a woman who had shown him great kindness. A former love interest who had disappeared after being called to be the Alcahest that year. It had been a grand ceremony, and when she went in to through those golden doors, she had never returned. Later, he had heard reports of a grave with her name on it, and had lost all hope...

But Ruby is here, now. She is similar, in that she chooses to follow Tarj. Azandar had given up on worship long ago, but that hadn't stopped him from joining Ruby for church that time. "Say, when we land, hopefully there will be a church nearby." He smiles a little.

Jessi: After she's done, she wipes her hands on a handkerchief from her bag, and wraps some thin muslin bandages around your palms and the fingers that are the worst off.

Aaron: "I can't thank you enough. You are very considerate. It feels quite cool."

Jessi: "Least I can do."
