The Flying City

You push open the heavy doors expecting to feel resistance from rust or the sound of squeaking hinges, but they move smoothly and silently aside at your touch. A grand room, with an immensely high ceiling, towers overhead. Columns of red stone and intricate designs trace around the room in an almost serpentine pattern, with beautifully etched reliefs on every inch of every wall. It is eerily silent, except for your footfalls on the stone floor.  Dusty cobwebs are drawn lightly over miscellaneous items, and light filters in from windows high above.

As you approach the center of this room, you see before you a fountain with an immense stone orb atop it, almost like a globe of Terra back home.  Once you are within 15 feet of the object, it suddenly springs to life. Green and golden energy sparks from lines drawn in its surface, and envelop the entire rock, levitating it inches above the base. A crunching noise can be heard as dust and pebbles tumble away. Light swirls around it, drawing designs above like stars in the heavens. The whole room seems aglow with its mysterious light, the orb now semi-transparent like a beautiful gem. All throughout the temple, orbs and candles magically ignite, showing you many more halls and rooms ahead.
